A FRIEND IN PRIDE
A FRIEND IN PRIDE
A friend I have, a friend so dear,
Long time companion, or so it would appear.
From afar, a friend indeed, but up close, a different tale,
Ignoring my handshake, with a haughty gale.
Expecting titles and prefixes, a sign of respect, he'd say,
But I refuse to play along, for our birth year's the same day.
Our class may differ, but that's no reason to create space,
Between us, my friend, my equal in this human race.
You may be brilliant, I, intelligent too,
Learned and lettered, our paths diverged, that's true.
You pursued a career, I chose a profession's call,
But success and influence, we both stand tall.
Eight books to my credit, films and poems galore,
My prowess on display, for all to explore.
My success is evident, my testimonies abound,
Google holds my story, for all to hear and sound.
Though my mansion's not complete, I'm building one anew,
Where termites can't devour, a legacy that's true.
When I sleep in the Lord, my memory stays near,
In your heart, my friend, my teachings will persevere.
Don't judge me by yesterday's eyes, I've moved far ahead,
No mat to stand on, but Jesus is my bread.
I sustain my life in words, on pulpits, I proclaim,
Transforming them to images, my teaching's not in vain.
I am your teacher, don't look down on me,
Though I may seem to have nothing, Jesus sets me free.
Friend, I'm sorry to say, I have everything I need,
For I am abpoet, and Jesus is my creed.
