LETTER TO SHOLA ALYNSON
LETTER TO SOLA ALLYSON
By: Abiola OlaOluwa
Your beginning was a letter that seems to be untold
They are letters with endless ending
Piecing into your world from behind
One could see the quiet of Night, a girl’s silent plea
Echoes unheard, lost in a world to free
Your mother’s love is a distant dream
In loneliness, Sola's heart does scream
No tender touch, no soothing embrace
In the wilderness of thy heart
You real out your mind in lyrics
In the realness of your struggle
You projected your brilliancy
A girl of strength, though none understand
Abused, betrayed, your innocence torn
Yet your heart, a flame is burning
You sleep beneath the staircase cold
A refuge bleak, your story untold
But in the corridors of your mind
Brilliance blooms, a rare find
You never rode with depression
I guess you suppress it in your expression
Even without any affection
Your expression created affection
You reminded us of who we are in your lyrics
Yet you still need a soothing balm of love
Your mother truly heard the whistle of the time
But you were deaf to her lyrics
Just because you are graced with consciousness
No wonder when the light finally shines to thy path,
You didn’t accept their offer of waywardness
You presented your person, your style, your look
And that is your brand
Sola, the light has come, let your wound be healed
Your past only corrects your future
I knew you cried in silence
I heard your humming in the very act of humiliation
I mean your sobbing in the darkest heart
I knew your bleeding on the inside
No tender touch, no soothing embrace
Just empty spaces, a cold, dark place
Yearning for warmth, for a gentle hand
To guide your steps, to help your stand
Your pleading eyes were ignored by your father
Your mother wore I-DON’T-CARE eyelashes
Sorry, the situation blanked her mind
And her orientation rode with time for survival
Sola, all these scenarios birthed the reality of you
No one deserves your ARREST
Don’t think of revenge
In the depths of your souls despair
you find a strength, a light to bear
For love can bloom in unexpected ways
In friends who stay, in sunlit days
You learn to love to heal the pain
To dance in the rain to rise again
For though your mother’s care may lack
You find the love you always sought
In your own heart, a treasure caught
Your voice, a gift from heavens above,
Carried pain, but also love.
In Yoruba songs, sola found release,
Her melodies, a balm of peace.
Through every note, she poured her soul,
Each lyric tells a story untold.
Of battles fought, of tears shed,
Of dreams deferred, yet not dead.
Your voice, a beacon in the night,
Guiding others to find their light.
In every song, a healing grace,
A testament to your inner space.
For though depression tried to dim your flame,
Your music rose, a triumphant claim.
You sing joy, of hope, of love,
A Yoruba singer, blessed from above.
So let your voice ring loud and clear,
A testament to what we hold dear.
In darkness, there's a light that gleams,
Through music's power, we find our dreams.
God bless you so dearly
